HSDPA Performance in a Mixed Traffic Network

Abstract: Abstract-One of the advantages in an existing WCDMA network is that HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) can be operated within an existing Release 4 (Release '99) 5 MHz band, thus allowing for sharing the power amplifier and spreading codes at the Node-B between the HS-DSCH (High Speed Downlink Shared Channel) and the Release 4 downlink channels (DCHs). In this paper, we investigate the throughput performance of HSDPA in a network, in which also Release 4 traffic is present by utilizing a system level mo… Show more

“…Simulating the totality of the radio links between the User Equipments (UEs) and eNodeBs is an impractical way of performing system level simulations due to the vast amount of computational power that would be required [10]. Thus, in system-level simulations the physical layer is abstracted by simplified models that capture its essential characteristics with high accuracy and simultaneously low complexity.…”

“…they are not capable of reflecting network issues like cell planning, scheduling, interference situations and so on. Therefore, to understand system and user performance under reasonable operating conditions in various deployment scenarios, system level simulations are crucial [1]. For complexity reasons those evaluations however have to rely on simplified link models that still must be accurate enough to capture the essential behavior.…”
