“…Among these studies, 6 studies were conducted in China, [23,26,2830,32] 1 in Japan, [31] 1 in Sweden, [24] 1 in Australia, [25] and 1 in Brazil. [27] Of all the selected studies, 3 presented HRs, [25,26,28] whereas in the other 7 studies, [23,24,27,2932] HRs were absent, and we needed to calculate the HR s from the survival curves. One study [25] did not give accurate data for follow-up.…”

“…Recent meta-analyses have not evaluated p16 overexpression to characterize the potential aetiological role of HPV infection in ESCC. Studies examining both p16 overexpression and HPV positivity in ESCC have reported a low rate of double-positive ESCC lesions, approximately 5% of all cases[64-71]. The available data are markedly different from oropharyngeal and cervical cancer data, and the association between p16 and HPV in ESCC therefore remains limited.…”

“…Antunes et al [28] and Herbster et al [38] from Brazil as well as Koh et al [39] from the Korean Cancer Centre Hospital found that tests for HPV DNA were negative in all their samples. Lofdahl et al [40] set up a population-based study relating HPV infection to tumor site in patients diagnosed with ESCC in Stockholm County in Sweden in 1999-2006.…”
