“…Students may not be aware of how to study effectively, and thus instructors can promote these study strategies by explicitly discussing them with their classes. These strategies include 1) explicitly discussing the use of learning objectives with students and modeling the writing of a question based on a learning objective (Osueke, Mekonnen, & Stanton, 2018), 2) suggesting that students re-take past quizzes, exams, and assessments and reflect upon their performance (Walck-Shannon, Cahill, McDaniel, & Frey, 2019), 3) teaching students how to self-evaluate their own work (Osterhage, Usher, Douin, & Bailey, 2019), 4) guiding students towards self-regulated learning where they set goals and monitor progress toward those goals (Sebesta & Bray Speth, 2017), 5) encouraging group studying where students can clarify concepts with peers (Kritzinger, Lemmens, & Potgieter, 2018), and 6) promoting regular and spaced out study time in preparation for tests (Roediger III & Karpicke, 2006).…”
