How to optimize the treatment of early stage Parkinson’s disease

Abstract: The approach to early Parkinson’s disease denotes the communication of the diagnosis and important decisions, such as when and how to start treatment. Evidence based medicine and guidelines indicate which drugs have robust evidence of efficacy and tolerability in this specific population. However, de-novo patients may show different characteristics and they may be in a different phase of their disease. In this review, we will give an insight into the appropriate time therapy should be started and the actual kno… Show more

“…3 Therefore, accurate and real-time detection of DA is highly crucial in clinical diagnostics. 4 There are several types of analytical techniques available for the detection of DA including highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC), 5 spectrometry, 6 calorimetry, and electrophoresis. 7 However, the above-mentioned techniques have some limitations, particularly high-cost, being time-consuming and the usage of environmentally hazardous solvents.…”

“…Clinically, the commonly used medications to treat motor symptoms in PD patients are levodopa, dopamine agonists and MAO-B inhibitors depending on the disease stage [ 39 , 40 ]. Selegiline, which is one of MAO-B inhibitors, has especially been used for the treatment of early-stage PD [ 41 , 42 , 43 ].…”
