Endometriosis has a prevalence of 10% worldwide in premenopausal women. Probably, endometriosis begins early in the life of young girls, and it is commonly diagnosed later in life. The prevalence of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) in adolescence is currently unknown due to diagnostic limits and underestimation of clinical symptoms. Dysmenorrhea is a common symptom in adolescents affected by DIE, often accompanied by dyspareunia and chronic acyclic pelvic pain. Ultrasonography—either performed transabdominal, transvaginal or transrectal—should be considered the first-line imaging technique despite the potential for missed diagnosis due to early-stage disease. Magnetic resonance imaging should be preferred in the case of virgo patients or when ultrasonographic exam is not accepted. Diagnostic laparoscopy is deemed acceptable in the case of suspected DIE not responding to conventional hormonal therapy. An early medical and/or surgical treatment may reduce disease progression with an immediate improvement in quality of life and fertility, but at the same time, painful symptoms may persist or even recur due to the surgery itself. The aim of this narrative review is to report the prevalence of DIE in adolescents, describe the pathogenetic theories and discuss the management in adolescent women, including the challenging road to diagnosis and the treatment alternatives.

Dismenore adalah nyeri yang dirasakan saat menstruasi dan banyak mengganggu kegiatan sehari‐hari. Sebanyak (65%) wanita di Indonesia mengalami dismenore primer. Pengobatan dismenore yang tidak sesuai dapat mengakibatkan munculnya permasalahan yang lebih parah seperti rasa nyeri yang dialami tidak kunjung sembuh hingga munculnya penyakit baru karena efek samping obat yang digunakan. Penanganan nyeri haid (dismenore) dipengaruhi oleh pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku remaja putri dalam melakukan tindakan swamedikasi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui gambaran pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku serta hubungan antara pengetahuan dengan sikap dan perilaku remaja putri terhadap swamedikasi nyeri haid (dismenore) di SMA Negeri 3 Cilegon Provinsi Banten. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner penelitian, sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 243 responden yang merupakan remaja putri SMA Negeri 3 Kota Cilegon yang berusia 15‐18 tahun, sudah pernah mengalami dismenore serta melakukan swamedikasi dismenore dalam 6 bulan terakhir, bersedia mengisi kuesioner, dan menandatangani informed consent. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan remaja putri SMA Negeri 3 Kota Cilegon memiliki tingkat pengetahuan cukup rata-rata ± SD (65,39 ± 14,43), sikap cukup rata-rata ± SD (69,73 ± 10,56) dan perilaku kurang rata-rata ± SD (67,21 ± 13,56) terhadap swamedikasi nyeri haid (dismenore). Dilakukan uji korelasi rank spearman untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan dengan sikap dan perilaku. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara tingkat pengetahuan dengan sikap dan perilaku dengan masing‐masing nilai p value sebesar 0,000. Nilai signifikansi 0,000 menunjukkan arah hubungan yang positif artinya semakin tinggi tingkat pengetahuan remaja putri SMA Negeri 3 Kota Cilegon terhadap swamedikasi nyeri haid (dismenore) maka sikap dan perilakunya juga akan semakin tinggi, begitupun sebaliknya.
