How to convert green supply chain integration efforts into green innovation: A perspective of knowledge‐based view

Abstract: Although the importance of green supply chain integration (GSCI) in facilitating green innovation has been recognized, most existing literature constructs a direct link for the GSCI-green innovation relationship. How firms convert their GSCI efforts into green innovation is still unclear. By collapsing GSCI into three dimensions (i.e., green supplier integration, green internal integration, and green customer integration), this study explores an indirect GSCI-green innovation link in which knowledge exchange a… Show more

“…These findings are consistent with the theoretical conjectures of the GSCI literature that green external integration is a critical enabler in motivating information sharing between supply chain partners (Huo et al, 2016; Woo et al, 2016). A potential rationale for this is that green external integration promotes trust between partners in the green supply chain, thus facilitating the information sharing with supplier and customer (Kong et al, 2020; Wu et al, 2014). Another potential rationale is that green external integration ensures the strategic cooperation relationship between the manufacturer and its external partner, which increasing the firm's willingness to engage in strategic and sensitive information sharing (Huo et al, 2016).…”

“…Second, information sharing with suppliers and customers contributes to the green innovation of the manufacturer, thereby helping to improve financial performance. Green innovation, which refers to the development or improvement of products or processes that aim at reducing negative environmental impacts (Kong et al, 2020), has been recognized as an important enabler for improving a firm's financial performance (Du et al, 2018). One purpose of information sharing with supply chain partners is to enhance firms' ability to develop environmentally friendly products and processes (Lai et al, 2015).…”
