How Prediction Accuracy can Affect the Decision-Making Process in Pavement Management System

Abstract: One of the most important components of pavement management systems is predicting the deterioration of the network through performance models. The accuracy of the prediction model is important for prioritizing maintenance action. This paper describes how the accuracy of prediction models can have an effect on the decision-making process in terms of the cost of maintenance and rehabilitation activities. The process is simulating the propagation of the error between the actual and predicted values of pavement pe… Show more

“…Early detection of cracks can prevent potential damage and failure (12). Building a fast, robust, and cost-effective image processing algorithm for detecting the pavement surface cracks is one of the most critical priorities for building a robust pavement management system (13)(14)(15)(16)(17).…”

“…This generated trajectory is (i) used to conduct eco-driving experiments, and (ii) leveraged as a look-ahead preview by MPC-based eco-heating strategy. Note that, other approaches have also been developed for short-and longterm predictions of vehicle speed using V2X [20,[27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] which can be integrated with our eco-heating strategy.…”
