How Postmortem Redistribution of MDMA in Acute Alcohol-MDMA Combined-Use Rats Change under Effects of Alcohol

Abstract: MDMA is often taken recreationally with alcohol as combined-use. The objective was to determine MDMA postmortem redistribution (PMR) and corresponding effects in combined-style under different storage conditions. Steps were 20%-mixture of alcohol-water for initial 4 weeks to Group-A&B and intragastric infusions of MDMA (150 mg/kg) to Group-A later; in the same time, drinking pure water to Group-C&D first and then MDMA-fed to Group-C. The sacrificed rats were kept under different conditions for 10-d, during whi… Show more

“…The presence of alcohol among these deaths is important. Alcohol use at high levels has been shown to exacerbate cardiotoxic effects [39], and in combination with MDMA synergistically increases blood concentrations of both substances, potentiating toxicity [40]. The presence of synthetic cannabinoids among deaths in Turkey also has public health implications.…”

“…Intoxication cases with multi-drug, the PMR of MDMA in acute alcohol and MDMA combined use was studied using rats [ 611 ]. In comparison of combined use against the alcohol or MDMA alone, the levels of alcohol and MDMA in combined use were significantly higher than cases with mono alcohol or MDMA alone.…”
