These approaches could include healthcare-based approaches such as case management ( Saragih et al, 2021 ), community-based interventions aimed at supporting patients and their families ( De Luca et al, 2021 ), and even scientific research into the neurobiology of the most distressing manifestations of dementia ( Kobayashi et al, 2021 ) which could lead to the development of safer and better treatment methods.…”

“…Dementia cafés were initiated in the Netherlands in 1997 as Alzheimer’s cafés [ 47 ] and have come to exist around the world [ 46 , 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 ]. They are expected to become places that support the activities of people with dementia and provide educational and psychological support to their families [ 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 , 54 , 55 , 56 ]. However, because dementia cafés are a relatively new system, future developments must be closely monitored.…”

“…Those with mild dementia experience myriad symptoms such as alteration in memory, judgement and decision-making, and slowed task completion as well as disturbances in emotional regulation, social behaviour and motivation. 13 These symptoms may lead to individuals forgetting to brush or floss, using the wrong supplies for oral care such as lotion instead of toothpaste, or not following tasks to completion. We have developed this study with a control group and two treatment groups at different levels of intervention to inform about the level of intensity necessary to improve oral health in these groups.…”
