Background While digital literacy has become an essential competency for individuals across generations and sectors of society, supporting digital literacy in older adults is particularly challenging. South Korea is among the many countries undergoing rapid digitalization and population aging. Therefore, it is timely to identify the current understanding of digital literacy among older adults in South Korea. Aim To identify prior studies that quantitatively measure digital literacy among older adults in South Korea and to identify and evaluate how digital literacy was measured in the reviewed studies. Methods The study followed Arksey and O’Malley's scoping review framework, searching through four international (PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Cochrane Library) and four Korean (RISS, KISS, KCI, and KMBase) databases. Results Among 42 studies included in the final analysis, 38 were cross-sectional studies, and 21 employed primary data. Digital literacy was assessed in various scopes, including digital literacy, e-health literacy, Internet use, and smartphone use. Of the 25 identified measures, three were validated; the rest varied greatly, from using a few items from large surveys to employing investigator-developed measures. Based on the European Commission's Digital Competence Framework, the most commonly addressed components were “information and data literacy” and “communication and collaboration.” Conclusions In recent years, attention toward digital literacy among South Korean older adults has grown rapidly. However, the level of digital literacy among older adults in South Korea remains inconclusive given measurement heterogeneity. Developing and validating more robust measures are warranted to evaluate digital literacy among older adults with diverse functions and circumstances.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between digital literacy and depressive symptoms, as well as the mediating role of social support in this relationship, among older women (60 years and older) in Korea.Methods: This study analyzed data from the User Experience Evaluation Survey, which was conducted by the Ewha Institute for Age Integration Research to improve the accessibility of digital information for older adults research from May to September 2020. Survey data on depressive symptoms, digital literacy, and social support were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression.Results: The factors influencing depressive symptoms among older women included work status (B=–.19, p=.01), social support (B=–.17, p<.001), self-rated health (B=–.13, p=.003), and digital literacy (B=–.10, p=.005), which had an explanatory power of 33%. In addition, social support played a mediating role in the relationship between digital literacy and depressive symptoms (B=–.05, SE=.02; 95% CI, –.09 to –.02).Conclusion: The findings of this study support the need to develop and apply interventions that promote digital literacy among older women to mitigate depressive symptoms by increasing social support.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of presentation formats of worked examples and the interaction effects between the presentation formats of worked examples and the prior knowledge of learners. An investigation with 97 middle school students working in four conditions (CPWE, CWE, PWE, and the control group) was conducted. The results indicate that CPWE was the most effective condition in retention and transfer. In addition, a partial expertise reversal effect was revealed in the element transfer test. High prior knowledge learners in both CPWE and PWE were superior to those who were in CWE and the control group, while low prior knowledge learners in CPWE were superior to those who were in other conditions.
