How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Mild Concussion?

Abstract: Loss of spinal alignment can lead to neurological compromise in individuals with unstable spine injuries. We compared the ability of the Roto-Rest bed and the Stryker frame to immobilize an unstable cervical and lumbar segment in a cadaver. The Roto-Rest bed was superior to the Stryker frame in the immobilization of both cervical and lumbar fractures.

“…Some authors believe that head trauma symptoms only last weeks to months; however, many believe that symptoms can persist for years, and may even remain indefinitely. 22,23 Two-thirds of our patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo experienced recovery during the first two months post-trauma, while the remainder recovered during the third month. All our cases of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo were managed using the Epley canalith repositioning manoeuvre, which successfully and permanently alleviated patients' symptoms.…”

“…An estimated 62 816 cases of concussion occur annually at the high school level, with American football accounting for about 63% of cases [1]. It is well known that many people who sustain concussions experience post-concussion symptoms and decrements on neuropsychological testing during the first week post-injury [2][3][4][5]. Fortunately, the vast majority of people who sustain a single concussion recover relatively quickly and fully.…”

“…MTBI gives rise to a constellation of symptoms termed the postconcussion disorder (PCD), of which complaints of headache, fatigue, depression, anxiety, irritability, and cognitive difficulties figure prominently [5][6][7][8][9][10]. The natural history of PCD is generally toward spontaneous resolution with time; however, 15% of patients continue to suffer disabling symptoms 1 year postinjury [11,12].…”
