Adoption of electronic health records (EHR) systems in nonfederal acute care hospitals has increased, with adoption rates across the United States reaching as high as 94%. Of the 330 plus acute care hospital EHR implementations in Texas, only 31% have completed attestation to Stage 2 of the meaningful use (MU) criteria. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies that hospital chief information officers (CIOs) used for the successful implementation of EHR. The target population consists of 3 hospitals CIOs from a multi-county region in North Central Texas who successfully implemented EHRs meeting Stage 2 MU criteria. The conceptual framework, for this research, was the technology acceptance model theory. The data were collected through semistructured interviews, member checking, review of the literature on the topic, and publicly available documents on the respective hospital websites. Using methodological triangulation of the data, 4 themes emerged from data analysis: EHR implementation strategies, overcoming resistance to technology acceptance, strategic alignment, and patient wellbeing. Participants identified implementation teams and informatics teams as a primary strategy for obtaining user engagement, ownership, and establishing a culture of acceptance to the technological changes. The application of the findings may contribute to social change by identifying the strategies hospital CIOs used for successful implementation of EHRs. Successful EHR implementation might provide positive social change by improving the quality of patient care, patient safety, security of personal health information, lowering health care cost, and improvements in the overall health of the general population.

RESUMOO objetivo desta pesquisa foi compreender se o Sistema de Informação Gerencial está alinhado à estratégia em empresas do terceiro setor com atividade hoteleira. A metodologia utilizada foi através de pesquisa exploratória, por meio de três entrevistas, realizadas com três empresas do segmento. Ficou evidenciado que as organizações do terceiro setor possuem dificuldades de quebrar a cultura organizacional para promover a mudança, dificuldades em construir uma estrutura planejada, organizada e profissional, e o principal motivo dessa dificuldade se dá pela formação profissional do grupo de pessoas que dirige as organizações e o relacionamento que se tem com a gestão. Mesmo com essa dificuldade é possível encontrar a existência de alinhamento estratégico entre com o Sistema de Informação Gerencial e o Planejamento Estratégico nas organizações estudadas onde se destaca a empresa (A). A pesquisa contribui gerencialmente pois demonstra a importância da existência do Alinhamento Estratégico nas organizações, e teoricamente com uma abordagem no terceiro setor relacionado à atividade hoteleira. Também apresenta evidencias de que a formação dos dirigentes das entidades do terceiro setor é uma variável importante para conseguir o Alinhamento Estratégico. O trabalho limitou-se a análise de apenas três empresas.

A B S T R A C TUsing structural equation modeling, this study empirically examined the causal relationships among the level of advanced manufacturing technology (AMT), facilitation of alignment, the degree of strategic alignment of management accounting information systems (MAIS), and the improvement of production performance. The causal relationships between MAIS strategic alignment and information characteristics of MAIS were also investigated. Results showed that the level of AMT has a significant and positive impact on alignment facilitation. A significant causal relationship between alignment facilitation and MAIS strategic alignment was also found. It was shown that under high degrees of MAIS strategic alignment, MAIS must provide broad-scope and integrated types of information. The causal relationships between MAIS strategic alignment and organizational performance were significant and positive. Thus, it is concluded that under high levels of AMT, high degrees of MAIS strategic alignment positively contribute to the improvement of a firm's production performance. Ⅰ.
