How ‘Dynasty’ Became a Modern Global Concept: Intellectual Histories of Sovereignty and Property

Abstract: This essay argues that the concept of 'dynasty' -nowadays associated especially with 'premodern' and non-Western societies -does not offer a value-neutral description for political forms.
