How Does Information and Communication Technology Affect Geothermal Energy Sustainability?

Abstract: There are many advantages of geothermal energy, as an environmentally friendly resource, with some other problems to be addressed before the full potential of this sustainable and renewable resource, which is natural, could be harnessed. This research will aim to examine what effect ICT, that is, information and communication technology factors with sustainability in the economy, has on geothermal energy output among the considered 27 EU nations within the time frame 1990 to 2021. The novelty of this research … Show more

“…The empirical analysis by Jayasinghe and Selvanathan (2021) illustrates that in the long run, one-way association prevails from energy utilisation and economic growth towards carbon emissions. A recent study by Alsaleh and Wang (2023) examined the long-run association between geothermal energy, GDP and carbon emissions in the presence of other variables, namely, information and communication technology, human capital and institutional quality in the model.…”

“…For comparison, the total global installed capacities of wind and solar power in 2021 were 622.7 GW and 586.4 GW, respectively, with an annual electricity generation of 1429.6 TWh and 724.1 TWh, respectively [4]. Nevertheless, geothermal energy offers sustainable electricity generation without greenhouse gas emissions and at an acceptable cost [5].…”
