How Does Industrial Upgrading Affect Carbon Productivity in China’s Service Industry?

Abstract: Promoting carbon productivity is an effective way to reduce carbon emissions. The existing literature focuses mainly on the carbon productivity of heavily polluted sectors, such as heavy industry, the manufacturing industry, and the construction industry. With the deepening of China’s economic transformation and industrial upgrading, the service industry plays an increasingly important role in the national economy, and the ratio and amount of carbon emissions in the service industry show an upward trend. In or… Show more

“…Lastly, in the exploration of factors influencing carbon productivity, scholars have identified several key elements, including technological innovation (Fan et al 2021;, economic development (Li and Wang 2019;Moutinho et al 2020), industrial upgrading (Weng and Chen 2023), the digital economy (Zhao et al 2022), and the establishment of high-speed rail networks ). Among these factors, technological advancement is regarded as a primary driver of carbon productivity improvement, as it enhances energy efficiency and reduces CO2 emission intensity, consequently fostering increased carbon productivity (Han.…”
