“…In a broad sense, our results support the benefit of improvisational behavior during the current highly unpredictable economic conditions. Our results are consistent with those in Charoensukmongkol (2022) and Shan et al (2022) recent studies that provided evidence that improvisational behavior benefits entrepreneurs by allowing them to respond to the major disruption the COVID-19 pandemic has caused and maintain satisfactory performance. Further, our findings provide additional support for Hultman et al ’s (2022) recent study that considers improvisational behavior the essential characteristic required for firms that are operating in fast-changing and precarious market environments, as it allows entrepreneurs to make rapid responses to unexpected market conditions.…”

“…First, the number of existing empirical studies on the effect of entrepreneurs’ improvisational behavior on firm performance in the face of the recent economic contraction and COVID-19 pandemic crisis is quite limited. Several examples are Charoensukmongkol (2022) and Shan et al ’s (2022) studies, which provided evidence of the benefits of improvisational behavior during the pandemic. Second, although studies have already confirmed the direct effect of improvisational behavior on firm performance, there is still a lack of research investigating the mechanisms by which entrepreneurs’ improvisational behavior can improve firm performance.…”

“…Lee and Jung (2021) focused on the sales support of Korean SMEs and proposed new distribution strategies. They proposed that in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era, SMEs should quickly introduce new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and big data, develop precise marketing strategies (Shan et al, 2022), and gradually realize digitalization.…”
