Purpose of Review Sadistic pleasure—the enjoyment of harm-infliction to others—can have devastating interpersonal and societal consequences. The goal of the current review is to illuminate the nomological net of traits related to sadism. We aim to achieve an understanding of the current empirical status on the link between sadism and personality disorders, psychopathy, the Dark Triad, and basic personality traits in clinical and community-based samples. Recent Findings The field is dominated by self-report studies on the Dark Triad with convenience samples. The link with DSM personality disorders has hardly been empirically studied. Existing evidence shows that sadism is most strongly related to increased psychopathic personality traits. Summary Sadism can originate both from the interpersonal, affective, and behavioural basis of dark personality traits. There are diverging ideas on the differential status between sadism, psychopathy, and other dark traits. Research is needed on the causal impact of the broader range of personality disorders on sadism, in more diverse samples, including behavioural assessments of sadistic pleasure, as well as on the interplay of such personality traits with situational and affective aspects, and victim attitudes.

La cultura del riesgo es un fenómeno que engloba las razones por las cuales los seres humanos toman ciertos riesgos, la manera en cómo los hacen y las razones que tienen para hacerlos. Por ejemplo, la movilidad es uno de los grandes problemas que enfrenta la sociedad latinoamericana debido al colapso de las ciudades, a un sistema de movilidad precario y a los movimientos migratorios a gran escala. Manejar motocicletas sin protección y con exceso de pasajeros, conducir bajo los efectos del alcohol, no respetar las señales de tránsito y el uso de dispositivos electrónicos mientras se conduce son algunos de los riesgos que algunos seres humanos están dispuestos a asumir debido a las carencias económicas, sociales y políticas que viven en su cotidianeidad. Supervivencia vial: cultura del riesgo es la tercera entrega de la serie de Supervivencia Vial, en la cual varios especialistas de la movilidad, de varios países hispanohablantes, exploran este fenómeno, sus causas y sus consecuencias. The Disintegration trait (i.e., proneness to psychotic-like experiences and behaviors) was recently proposed as the basic personality trait that supplements the space of individual differences framed by well-known Big Five and HEXACO models. In this research, we provided additional evidence of the unique contribution of Disintegration in predicting the individual differences in some outcomes whose relations with this trait are mainly unexplored. In the first study (N = 300), we employed a 20-item measure of Disintegration (DELTA-20), a short form of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10), alcohol and drug use disorders identification tests (AUDIT, DUDIT), and Flanagan's Quality of Life Scale (QoLS). The results showed that Disintegration predicts higher levels of problem alcohol and drug use, and lower quality of life, over and above the Big Five traits, thus increasing the proportion of explained variance by 3% and 1%, respectively. In the second study (N = 537), we used a 10-item measure of Disintegration (DELTA-10), a 60-item form of HEXACO, and a Serbian version of the Modified and Revised Experiences in Close Relationship scale (SM-ECR-R). The results showed that Disintegration predicts higher levels of avoidance and anxiety in close relationships over and above HEXACO traits, with an incremental contribution in the explained variance of 2% and 11%, respectively. In sum, our findings suggested that the Disintegration trait, assessed by either the shorter or longer measure, accounts for unique variance in individual, wellbeing-related outcomes, and dyadic functioning-related outcomes. The limitations and future directions are discussed.
