Humanistic quality refers to the research ability, knowledge level of the humanities, and the human inner quality of the humanities. The purpose of this paper was to make a research on the cultivation of humanistic literacy of nursing undergraduates in the context of the Internet era. This paper first makes a general introduction of the classification of the Internet and the definition of humanistic literacy, analyzes the results of two rounds of expert consultation method, and then obtains the current situation of nursing undergraduates through the questionnaire survey of school nursing undergraduates. The experimental results showed that in the current survey situation, the expert support rate of humanistic care is as high as 90%, indicating that humanistic care is especially important for a nursing undergraduate. The total score of humanistic nursing ability of undergraduate nursing students was 127.03, which is in the middle level higher than that of most domestic studies, but lower than that of American nursing students.

PurposeThis paper reviews research developments in semiosis (sign activity) as theorized by Peirce, Eco and Sebeok, focusing specifically on the current study of “semiotic threshold zones,” which range from the origins of life through various nonhuman life forms to artificial life forms, including those symbolic thresholds most familiar to library and information science (LIS) researchers. The intent is to illustrate potential opportunities for LIS research beyond its present boundaries.Design/methodology/approachThe paper provides a framework that describes six semiotic threshold zones (presemiotic, protosemiotic, phytosemiotic, zoosemiotic, symbolic and polysemiotic) and notable work being done by researchers in each.FindingsWhile semiotic researchers are still defining the continuum of semiotic thresholds, this focus on thresholds can provide a unifying framework for significance as human and nonhuman interpretations of a wide variety of signs accompanied by a better understanding of their relationships becomes more urgent in a rapidly changing global environment.Originality/valueThough a variety of semiotic-related topics have appeared in the LIS literature, semiotic thresholds and their potential relationships to LIS research have not been previously discussed there. LIS has traditionally tasked itself with the recording, dissemination and preservation of knowledge, and in a world that faces unprecedented environmental and global challenges for all species, the importance of these thresholds may well be considered as part of our professional obligations in potentially documenting and archiving the critical differences in semiosis that extend beyond purely human knowledge.

The aim of this chapter is to set out the basic coordinates of a cybersemiotic philology of Buddhist knowledge forms in order to further develop the nonanthropocentric dimensions and process-philosophical potential of both Buddhism and Peircean semiotics. This is also meant to lay the foundations for an interculturally and philologically enriched cybersemiotics. Proceeding from the logical conception of philosophical categories and their philological explication, the transdisciplinary model of a semiotic philology of thought forms (Lettner, diss. thesis, forthc.) develops an intercultural explication of "thought forms" with regard to the three interdependent pillars of philosophy (epistemological "knowledge forms"), philology (textualised "language forms") and cultural studies ("life forms" as culture-related practices). In a first step, the reconstruction of paradigmatic modes of knowledge representation will be exemplified with regard to the approaches of Aristotelian philosophy, various positions of premodern Indian Buddhism as well as the paradigms of modern science and postclassical physics. In the second step of a cybersemiotic interpretation, Peirce's synechistic understanding of habit will serve us to enlarge the culture-specific notion of life forms as pragmatically grounded thought forms by making it converge with the ethologically informed, biosemiotic notion of "life forms" embraced by cybersemiotics. Exploring cybersemiotics as developed by Brier (2008) from the perspective of Indian Buddhist philosophy intends to work out the phenomenological purport of Peirce's approach, with its move of locating agency in the process of semiosis, by comparing it to the Buddhist
