Household Hazardous Waste: Handling, Precaution and Hazard Reduction

Abstract: The house can be considered as a factory for the production of various products. Every unit in this plant generates some wastes. Some of these wastes are dangerous called household hazardous wastes (HHHW) and must be dealt with carefully, and some of them are less dangerous and easy to deal with. Regarding hazardous household wastes, it must be defined to avoid the dangers resulting from handling it incorrectly. Some products that contain hazardous ingredients can be replaced with others that do not. The house… Show more

“…Some e-waste is categorised as hazardous wastes and will arise in all countries whether or not they have the infrastructure for environmentally sound recycling, recovery and disposal. E-waste is just one component of household hazardous waste ( El-Khateeb, 2022 ), which has long been on the agenda in the Global North (see 1990 baseline; ( Slack et al, 2005 ; Inglezakis and Moustakas, 2015 )) but is increasingly receiving attention in the Global South ( Manggali and Susanna, 2019 ).…”

“…Naphthalene is in most cases used to make dyes, explosives, toilet deodorants, insecticides, lubricants, PVC piping, and is a potential part of the chemical suite used in natural gas development [74]. Although naphthalene can dissolve to some extent in water, it is mixed with water during hydraulic fracturing of oil to act not only as a biocide but also weakly attached to soil particles [75].…”

“…Nitrobenzene is primarily used as a precursor to aniline (Wang et al, 2010;Turáková et al, 2014;Qu et al, 2017;Nie et al, 2020), which is used in the manufacture of rubber chemicals (Masaki et al, 2004), dyes (Kumar et al, 1990;Wu et al, 1998;Nia et al, 2021), and pharmaceuticals (Nagai and Kurumi, 1970;Cao et al, 2004;Badawy et al, 2009). It is also used as a solvent (Bayliss and McRae, 1954), a paint and varnish remover (Saxena and Saxena, 2010;Hou et al, 2015;Dewage et al, 2019;Maharolkar et al, 2019;El-Khateeb, 2022), and a synthetic flavoring agent (Rode et al, 1999;Kaur et al, 2014;Villegas et al, 2020). Nitrobenzene has a variety of applications in industry and research, including:…”
