Hot topics on fecal microbiota transplantation for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease

Abstract: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic intestinal mucosal inflammatory disease with complex etiology. Traditional anti-inflammatory treatment regimens have yielded unsatisfactory results. As research continues to deepen, it has been found that the gut microbiota of patients with IBD is generally altered. The presence of microorganisms in the human gastrointestinal tract is inextricably linked to the regulation of health and disease. Disruption of the microbiotic balance of microbiota in the gastrointest… Show more

“…FMT has been demonstrated to restore altered microbiota and reconstruct the gut micro ecosystem and modulate both the innate and adaptive arms of the immune systed, leading to therapeutic outcomes for different diseases [186]. Among these, it has been very successful and extensively used for treating Clostridioides difficile infection implicated in IBD [187].…”

“…The use of FMT has been prevalent in cases of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) and IBD [149]. Comparing the GI tracts, microbial abundance, and diversity between IBD patients and healthy individuals showed a significant difference [150].…”
