Hot Deformation Characteristics of 13Cr-4Ni Stainless Steel Using Constitutive Equation and Processing Map

Abstract: Hot compression tests were performed to study the hot deformation characteristics of 13Cr-4Ni stainless steel. The tests were performed in the strain rate range of 0.001-10 s 21 and temperature range of 900-1100°C using GleebleÒ 3800 simulator. A constitutive equation of Arrhenius type was established based on the experimental data to calculate the different material constants, and average value of apparent activation energy was found to be 444 kJ/mol. Zener-Hollomon parameter, Z, was estimated in order to cha… Show more

“…Rapidly increasing stress is detected at the initial deformation stage due to the rapidly increasing number of dislocation [25,26]. Following the above stage, the increasing rate of flow stress decreases gradually, resulting from DRV and DRX partially counteracting the effect of work hardening simultaneously [27]. The flow stress increases no more when the work hardening and the dynamic softening (caused by DRV and DRX) were in balance, and the peak was thus achieved.…”

“…The word recrystallization usually refers to the replacement of a deformation microstructure by new grains [62,63]. The process of recrystallization during heat treatment is called static recrystallization (SRX) [64,65].…”

“…These parameters influence the microstructure evolution and the final product quality [1]. As such, an optimisation to thermo-mechanical processes will ensure that the produced components have the desired microstructure and free from deformation defects [1,4].…”

“…Constitutive modelling has been widely used to study metal flow behaviour taking into account the effects of process parameters [4,5]. The constitutive equations provide the intrinsic workability behaviour of the material during deformation [6].…”
