Hot corrosion behavior of HVOF-sprayed CoNiCrAlYSi coatings in a sulphate environment

Abstract: Abstract.HVOF-sprayed CoNiCrAlYSi coatings were tested at 900 °C in a hot corrosion environment containing sodium-potassium sulphates. The HVOF spraying caused the typical splat-on-splat structure. The results after the hot corrosion testing showed that the corrosion preferentially occurred at the coating surface and the splat boundaries. The oxidation along the splat boundaries can isolate the splat from the underlying coating matrix. In those isolated splats or coating parts, internal oxidation and nitridati… Show more

“…Figure 3(b) shows the morphology of CoCrAlYTaSi coating cross-section. A clear bonding line was observed between the coating and the substrate, the structure grew perpendicular to the interface, which improved its wear resistance in a corrosive environment (Liu et al, 2018;Yuan et al, 2015).…”

“…MCrAlY coatings have been widely employed as bond coatings because of their low cost and good oxidation property [26][27][28][29][30]. These coatings contain an approximately 50% volume fraction of β precipitates served as Al reservoirs, enabling formation of a dense Al 2 O 3 layer to resist the oxygen-gas penetration at high temperatures [26,31].…”

“…In order to know more about the research progress of anticorrosion coatings, the detailed statistical classification of the adopted techniques in the literature were carried out. The statistical data were derived from 94 kinds of coatings in more than 60 literature contributions, all of which focused on the corrosion-resistant coatings in the range of 400–900 °C. Therefore, it can be considered that these coatings have the potential for corrosion resistance in power plants.…”
