Host Range of Itersonilia perplexans and Management of Itersonilia Petal Blight of China Aster

Abstract: Isolates of Itersonilia perplexans were tested for pathogenicity on 14 different plant species. Isolates from China aster and sunflower were each pathogenic to the other host and both isolates were pathogenic to chrysanthemum and gerbera, causing moderate to high incidences of flower or seedling blight in these hosts. China aster and sunflower isolates were not pathogenic to burdock, but an isolate from burdock was pathogenic to florists' chrysanthemum and gerbera. In a survey of weed species near a cut-flower… Show more

“…Associated mostly with healed mucosa, both species were present to some extent also at the site of active ulcers. Itersonilia is usually described as a plant commensal or pathogen; therefore, its presence in the oral cavity is probably inconsequential in relation to RAS, since it is most likely associated with food intake [42][43][44]. C. tropicalis is considered to be the second most virulent Candida species and a very strong biofilm producer [45].…”

“…cucumerina is a known pathogen of melon and the causal agent of fruit and collar rot in several plant species but not on strawberry [ 48 ]. Itersonilia perplexans is the causal agent of foliar and petal blight on several cut-flowers [ 49 ]. Hanseniospora uvarum has been isolated from the surface of fruit such as grapes and is known for its role in natural fermentation and for the secretion of a killer toxin against Saccharomyces cerevisiae [ 50 ].…”

“…For fungi, Itersonilia is known as a fungal pathogen. For example, Itersonilia perplexans appearing in this study causes petal, foliar, and seedling blight and root cankers on host plants (McGovern et al, 2006). Overall, the beneficial microbes and plant pathogens dwelt on a balanced microbial ecosystem of A. sinensis seedlings (Vimal et al, 2017).…”

“…Many microbes usually inhabit the rhizospheres of different plants and play a role in ecological functions, such as C, N and S cycling (Li et al, 2014;Fierer et al, 2012), indole acetic acid production (Kuffner et al, 2010), and biocontrol against plant-pathogenic fungi (Adrangi et al, 2010). However, many other microbes comprising bacteria and fungi are plant pathogens and they are not conducive to plant health (Peix, Ramirez-Bahena & Velazquez, 2018;McGovern et al, 2006).…”
