Host‐guest nanosized coordination complexes based on Ag‐isonicotinic acid‐H2O and Ni‐4,4′‐bipyridine‐aminobenzic acid‐H2O as potentially active anticancer and antimicrobial agents

Abstract: Nano‐scaled coordination complexes (CC) exhibiting the structures [Ag (INH)2].OH.H2O (CC1), [Ni(4,4′‐bpy)(H2O)4](4‐aba)2.4H2O (CC2), (INH = isonicotinic acid, 4,4′‐bpy = 4,4′‐bipyridine, 4‐aba = aminobenzoate) were prepared via self‐assembly and sono‐chemical methods at ambient conditions. The structures were fully studied by single‐crystal XRD and analytical investigations. Water molecules and the hydroxyl ions act as guests connecting the discrete molecules in complex 1, whereas in 2 the coordinate water mol… Show more

“…[ 8 ] An investigation by El‐Ansary et al [ 9 ] showed the enhanced antimicrobial activity of Ag‐coumarin complexes compared with the free ligands, and similar results were also obtained for Ag‐isonicotinic acid complexes. [ 10 ] Interestingly, Ag‐naphthalenol Schiff base complexes showed manifold pharmaceutical therapy, namely, anticancer, antioxidant and antimicrobial offering combination drug treatment at one goal. [ 11 ] Beside silver complexes, other transition metal complexes have also been investigated and have shown promising results as antimicrobial and anti‐fungal agents.…”
