Host-Guest Interaction between Herbicide Oxadiargyl and Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin

Abstract: In the face of a growing human population and increased urbanization, the demand for pesticides will simply rise. Farmers must escalate yields on increasingly fewer farm acres. However, the risks of pesticides, whether real or perceived, may force changes in the way these chemicals are used. Scientists are working toward pest control plans that are environmentally sound, effective, and profitable. In this context the development of new pesticide formulations which may improve application effectiveness, safety,… Show more

“…Hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) is widely used as a solubilizing agent and carrier with rapid dissolution for much poorly water-soluble ACs (Perchyonok et al 2014). Several inclusion complexes with CDs have been reported in the promising field of environmental friendly pesticides (Benfeito et al 2013;Gao et al 2019b;Geng et al 2018;Kim et al 2019;Villaverde 2007;Villaverde et al 2004Villaverde et al , 2005Yanez et al 2012).…”

“…Among the advantages of cyclodextrin complexes of pesticides are enhanced stabilization, increased solubility and bioavailability, and controlled release properties [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. Continuing our investigation on the complexation of pesticides with cyclodextrins [15][16][17][18], herein we report the preparation and characterization of some water-soluble inclusion complexes formed by the herbicide terbuthylazine and -cyclodextrin ( -CD). Furthermore, another modified cyclodextrin, 2-hydroxypropyl--cyclodextrin (HP--CD), was used in a comparative way to ascertain the interested in exploring the solubilization effect of CDs on terbuthylazine and the binding ability of the resulting inclusion complexes, which would provide a useful approach for obtaining novel terbuthylazine-based formulations with increased water solubility, high bioavailability, and low toxicity.…”

“…However, the existence of these compounds in the environment and ecosystems causes adverse impacts by contaminating soil, surface and groundwater, thus contributing to a loss in biodiversity [5]. In this sense, CDs can be employed in remediation [5][6][7][8][9] or in the formulation of new herbicides [10,11].…”
