Hormonal and cellular regulation of Sertoli cell anti-Müllerian hormone production in the postnatal mouse.

Abstract: Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is secreted by immature testicular Sertoli cells. Clinical studies have demonstrated a negative correlation between serum AMH and testosterone in puberty but not in the neonatal period. We investigated AMH regulation using mouse models mimicking physiopathological situations observed in humans. In normal mice, intratesticular, not serum, testosterone repressed AMH synthesis, explaining why AMH is downregulated in early puberty when serum testosterone is still low. In neonatal mice,… Show more

“…Sertoli cells of the testes from embryonic day (E) 12.5 to postnatal day (P) 14 (Supplementary Figure S2, see section on supplementary data given at the end of this article) and then almost repressed by P24 (Al-Attar et al 1997). In the ovary, Amh expression is defined in the growing follicles after P3 and later stages (Lécureuil et al 2002).…”

“…One effect of 11-KT (or testosterone in mammals) in a complex regulative network is the down-regulation of Amh (Al-Attar et al 1997, Miura et al 2002, Rey et al 2003. Amh, in turn, inhibits LC development and androgen synthesis in mammals (Josso et al 1998, Fynn-Thompson et al 2003, Salva et al 2004).…”
