HopA1 Effector from Pseudomonas syringae pv syringae Strain 61 Affects NMD Processes and Elicits Effector-Triggered Immunity

Abstract: Pseudomonas syringae-secreted HopA1 effectors are important determinants in host range expansion and increased pathogenicity. Their recent acquisitions via horizontal gene transfer in several non-pathogenic Pseudomonas strains worldwide have caused alarming increase in their virulence capabilities. In Arabidopsis thaliana, RESISTANCE TO PSEUDOMONAS SYRINGAE 6 (RPS6) gene confers effector-triggered immunity (ETI) against HopA1pss derived from P. syringae pv. syringae strain 61. Surprisingly, a closely related H… Show more

“…In resistant plants, the resistasome senses HopA1 and activates RPS6 (RPS6*) through unknown mechanisms. PTI is amplified by elicited ETI HopA1 pss via MAPK3/6 signaling and other unknown mechanisms . A final interesting way in which the different signaling pathways in rice are mediated is that there are two WRKY IIa genes, OsWRKY62 and OsWRKY76, that undergo constitutive and inducible AS.…”

In regard to cancer treatment, drugs have been developed to target certain subtypes based on these models.…”

“…Previous bioinformatics studies demonstrated sequence similarity between CaoY and HopA1 (PF17914), 3,7 a Pseudomonas syringae effector protein that suppresses the effector-triggered immunity response in plants by targeting the positive immune regulator enhanced disease susceptibility1 (EDS1). 15,16 An in vivo kinase-effector interaction screen also identified a number of other kinases as putative HopA1 targets, many of which are shared with other P. syringae effectors, such as HopAI1, 17 implying a similar S3. protein−protein interaction mechanism adopted by these two effectors.…”
