Honeyword Generation Using a Proposed Discrete Salp Swarm Algorithm

Abstract: Honeywords are fake passwords that serve as an accompaniment to the real password, which is called a "sugarword." The honeyword system is an effective password cracking detection system designed to easily detect password cracking in order to improve the security of hashed passwords. For every user, the password file of the honeyword system will have one real hashed password accompanied by numerous fake hashed passwords. If an intruder steals the password file from the system and successfully cracks the passwor… Show more

“…The process of calculating the vicinity space is done through the addition or subtraction of a value of one from one bit of the solution S that is selected randomly, where this process is done for each solution S 25,26 . In addition to that, there is an adaptive value (Adp) which is used to specify if the mathematical operation is plus or minus that is applied to the targeted bit as we can see in algorithm 3.…”

“…This section offers a scholarly analysis of three studies which address the use of honeywords to improve password security (Win et al, 2018;AlHamdani et al, 2023). Win et al [5], a novel approach to honey encryption and the creation of honeywords have been introduced to improve the security of sensitive data.…”

“…To enhance the intricacy of distinguishing genuine passwords from decoys, researchers employ a method that involves using a dataset of authentic passwords to generate honeywords that exhibit statistically comparable characteristics. The approach proposed by AlHamdani et al [7] entails employing the discrete salp swarm algorithm to produce honeywords that closely resemble real passwords. The present methodology exhibits enhanced performance in terms of both effectiveness and efficiency when compared to prior methodologies.…”

“…Hackers are becoming increasingly adept at understanding algorithms, methodologies, and the mathematical principles behind them, enabling them to decrypt messages and steal information more effectively than ever before discerption regarding the reference 2 . This poses a major threat to current encryption systems, especially those that rely on sequential algorithms, as hackers can exploit their predictability and penetrate multiple layers of defense, such as setting one algorithm followed by another algorithm discerption regarding the reference 3 . This is a big problem because they think that it will be difficult for a hacker to penetrate it, but this is the case.…”
