Homologous–heterogeneous structure control and intelligent adsorption effect of a polycationic gel for super-efficient purification of dyeing wastewater

Abstract: A homologous–heterogeneous polycationic gel (HPCG) system was constructed by a waste-free synthesis process, to be used as a super-efficient adsorbent material for purifying dyeing wastewater.

“…We observed that the obtained polycationic adsorbents had strong adsorption abilities to remove anionic pollutants (e.g. anionic colored dyes) in water, and their adsorption capacities were 17.4–292.2 times higher than that of the widely used activated carbon, owing to the formation of strong electrostatic adsorption interactions between the polycationic units and the anionic dyes . Based on the same interaction principle, we deduced that if some useful anionic units could be incorporated into material skeletons, the corresponding anionic adsorbents would be obtained.…”
