Homogeneous large-scale crystalline nanoparticle-covered substrate with high SERS performance

Abstract: This article details the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance of plasmonic substrates fabricated by a physical metal evaporation technique that uses no precursor or intermediate coating. We outline a cost-effective nanofabrication protocol that uses common laboratory equipment to produce homogeneously covered crystalline nanoparticle substrates. Our fabrication yields a homogeneous SERS response over the whole surface. The platform is tested with methylene blue diluted at various concentrations… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the particle size is distributed over a rather broad range with a mean particle size d NP = 15-16 nm [see Fig. 1(d)], as it is common for a self-aggregated growth of nanoparticles [54]. The reflectance of the studied Au-NP/manganite films shows a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) around λ SPR = 592-606 nm, indicated by the broad reflectance peak [45,55] seen in Fig.…”

“…remain the same before and after the deposition of Au-NPs (see Figure 7). A scanning electron microscopy image in the inset of Figure 7 indicates a homogeneous covering of Au-NPs with a rather broad particle size distribution, commonly observed for aerosol-or vapor-based nanoparticle growth [78,79]. A mean particle size of dAu~16 nm was obtained.…”

“…The SERS analyses of biological samples were performed on gold nanoparticle substrates. The sensitivity, homogeneity, and reproducibility of these substrates have already been evaluated by analyzing methylene blue molecules and human microsomal protein cytochrome b5 . The optical characteristics of the gold nanoparticle substrates were presented briefly in the Supporting Information.…”
