Homogeneous Geovisualization of Coastal Areas From Heterogeneous Spatio-Temporal Data

Abstract: ABSTRACT:On coastal areas, recent increase in production of open-access high-quality data over large areas reflects high interests in modeling and geovisualization, especially for applications of sea level rise prediction, ship traffic security and ecological protection. Research interests are due to tricky challenges from the intrinsic nature of the coastal area, which is composed of complex geographical objects of which spatial extents vary in time, especially in the intertidal zone (tides, sands, etc.). Ano… Show more

“…The simulations can be interactive or static and have a variety of applications. GIS-based 3D visualizations have been used for mapping alluvial sites, modelling elevation and topography, measuring landslide vulnerability, and mapping water depth (Masse and Christophe, 2015;Heitzler et al, 2017a;Mossa et al, 2019;Wahyudi et al, 2020;Ahmed, Mahmud, and Tuya, 2021). These techniques using GIS have demonstrated that 3D visualizations can provide new insight alongside their 2D counterparts (Mossa et al, 2019), can provide additional geographic data, and model virtual representations of real events (Wahyudi et al, 2020).…”

“…Deux éléments spatio-temporels sont couramment utilisés pour représenter la mer en zone littorale : l'interface terre/mer et la profondeur de l'eau (Masse et Christophe, 2015). L'interface terre/mer est souvent représentée sous forme de ligne représentant un niveau théorique maximal du niveau de la mer appelé trait de côte.…”

“…Many advances in visualization or visual analytics in geovisualization and urbanism are still making use of a flat map representation ( (Masse and Christophe, 2015), (Karduni et al, 2017), and most examples listed of the literature review in (Zheng et al, 2016)), building on the traditional methods of cartography. However, with the increasing availability and accessibility of 3D technology and data, the use of 3D geovirtual environments (Pasewaldt, 2013) is finding growing advocacy in multiple geospatial domains.…”
