Homœopathy and disability

Andrew Vickers

Abstract: The classification of disability is outlined. The limitations of the medical model when applied to disability and the practical problems of disabled people are discussed. The literature on homœopathic treatment of disability is reviewed. The basic causes of disability are often irreversible, but homœopathy may have an important role to play in the relief of secondary symptoms. Homœopathic treatment of people with disabilities, especially children, requires further study.

“…15 In another study also reporting three clinical cases of mentally disabled children, the author observed that homeopathic treatment may help, either by functioning as a stimulus of their psychoemotional maturation and social adaptation or by enabling them to be physically healthier. 1,2 In most current repertories, we find the rubrics 'Idiocy', 'Imbecility' and 'Cretinism'. 3,13,16 However, beginning the homeopathic approach using these rubrics is not the most appropriate strategy, as it implies starting the study with a reduced number of remedies.…”
