Homemade laparoscopic simulator

Abstract: Purpose:To describe a guide for the construction of a laparoscopic training simulator.Methods:Step-by-step description of an inexpensive and easy to assemble homemade laparoscopic training box, capable of simulating the laparoscopic environment in its peculiarities to enable technical skills training. Results:The total cost of the materials for the construction of the simulator was US$ 75.00 (about R$ 250.00 “reais”) and it can be reduced to US$ 60.00 if the builder judges that there is no need for internal lig… Show more

“…Simulation offers the opportunity to practice in a safe, controlled, and standardized environment. Laparoscopic surgical simulation, in particular, is very attractive because it avoids learning and practicing surgical skills in the operating room [7]. After the training, the operating performance of the intern group and probationer group were significantly increased.…”

“…7 The simulator provides unlimited opportunities for training, but with a cost that can exceed 80 thousand dollars, making it unfeasible for several educational institutions. 4,8 Dry models can be easy to build, inexpensive, and arouse interest in trainees and demonstrate similar efficiency to virtual reality, [8][9][10][11][12][13] the model studied here was developed with this format and concept of using low-cost materials. The step-by-step material and assembly of the model has already been published, 14 and the present study proposes the validation of this model (►Fig.…”
