“…Improvement of the home environment, to make it more suitable for an older person, was considered a positive component of physical safety, for example kitchen modification (Ibrahim & Davies, ; Kamei et al, ), home lighting (Bakker, Iofel, & Lachs, ) and small‐scale modifications such as the installation of bath grab rails (Edwards et al, ; Gill, Williams, Robison, & Tinetti, ). Older houses, those built around the end of the Second World War, were reported as risk factors and a negative component of safety when they had old electrical installations, which had no fire safety devices (Coty, McCammon, Lehna, Twyman, & Fahey, ). However, some older people were in homes not able to be improved and remained a difficult living environment not suitable for their needs in this phase of life (Bigonnesse, Beaulieu, & Garon, ; Coty et al, ).…”
