Holographic Supersolids

Matteo Baggioli,
Giorgio Frangi

Abstract: A supersolid is a system that presents long-range order and shear rigidity as a solid but which also supports a non-dissipative superflow as a superfluid. From an effective perspective, supersolids are identified with phases of matter that break spontaneously translational invariance together with a global U (1) symmetry. By using this symmetry prescription, we build a holographic bottom-up model for supersolids and we start the investigation of its thermodynamic and mechanical properties. More precisely, we a… Show more

“…Nevertheless, nonlinear elastic response can be obtained using holographic methods, yielding a rich phenomenology of nonlinear elasticity behaviours, see e.g. [22][23][24][25]. Given the full stress-strain curves, one can define the nonlinear elastic shear modulus G ≡ dΣ/dε.…”

“…More recently, based on the effective field theory and holographic duality, a potential relationship among the nonlinear elasticity, yielding and entropy of granular matter was suggested and then verified by computer simulations of granular models [22]. The thermodynamic and mechanical properties of a holographic bottom-up model for the supersolid were considered in [23]. Interestingly, shear flows in some holographic models were investigated in [24] where the viscosity-entropy density ratio shows some universality even far away from equilibrium.…”
