“…The variations in major elements preserved in lake sediments are widely used to provide environmental information such as the sedimentation process and catchment dynamics (Davies et al, 2015). In general, Fe, Ti, Rb, and Zr are indicators of detrital elements hosted by resistant minerals, owning geochemical stability (Boës et al, 2011; Cui et al, 2022; Yang et al, 2020). They are mostly transported into a lake through surface erosion within the catchment (Cohen, 2004; Engstrom and Wright, 1984).…”

“…Accordingly, instead of terrestrial carbonate, Ca and Sr in this sediment core are deduced as carbonate minerals precipitated within lake water (Dellwig et al, 2000; Heymann et al, 2013; Jia and Liu, 2019). The values of Ca and Sr are related closely to fluctuations in lake level which affect carbonate concentrations inside the lake (Bajard et al, 2015; Cui et al, 2022). Decreased lake water level or an enclosed lake may increase the concentration of Ca and Sr ions, further result in precipitation of Ca and Sr in Lake Xiaolongchi sediments and vice versa.…”
