Holocene malacofauna in calcareous deposits of Dūkšta site near Maišiagala in Lithuania

Abstract: The paper contains results of new investigations in Lithuania of the first occurrences of terrestrial molluscs in calcareous tufa (travertine), carbonate content and radiocarbon dating. Terrestrial fossil molluscs (35 taxa) prevail in the mollusc fauna, while fresh water species are much more rare (6 taxa). The Dūkšta terrestrial mollusc fauna embraces a complex of thermophiles including such forest species as Acicula polita (Hartmann), Acanthinula aculeatа (Müller), Aegopinella cf. pura (Alder), Bulgaria сапа… Show more

“…In order to calculate the mineral percentages, the volume of CO 2 related to calcite and dolomite was assessed at constant temperature during the reaction of these phases in HCl. The details of the carbonate analysis method have been described by Rudnickaitė (2007Rudnickaitė ( , 2016, Sanko et al (2008), Kabailienė et al (2009). The dolomite/calcite content ratio was later used as an implicit climate proxy and tested for statistical cross-correlations with the Greenland stable oxygen isotopic temperature record.…”

“…Während aus der mitteleuropäischen Region und dem nördlichen Europa zahlreiche Studien zur nacheiszeitlichen Entwicklung der Mollusken-Faunen bekannt sind (z.B. Mania 1973, Ložek 1982, Kopczyńska-Lamparska et al1984, Gedda 2001, Meyrick 2001, Meyrick & Preece 2001, Sanko et al 2008, liegen aus Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bisher nur verhältnismäßig wenige Daten vor (z.B. Jaeckel 1949, Krolopp et al 1977, Kossler & Strahl 2011, Menzel-Harloff & Strahl 2012.…”

“…The carbonates content of sediments was determined for bulk sample. The more detailed description of carbonate analysis is presented in papers Sanko et al (2008), Kabailienė et al (2009). For the further comparison of till beds Van der Varden criterion was used.…”
