Hole-transporting hydrazones

Abstract: This tutorial review covers recent contributions in the area of hole-transporting hydrazones, which are widely used in optoelectronic devices. It is addressed to students and researchers interested in the synthesis and properties of organic electroactive materials. The thermal, charge transport and other properties of electroactive hydrazones are compared and the relationships between the molecular structures and properties are emphasized. The first part discusses the low-molar-mass hydrazones and presents exa… Show more

“…It seems that the presence of electron-accepting 1,8-naphthalimide species has minor effect on the ionization potentials of these compounds. They are close to the ionization potentials of earlier reported triphenylamine-based hydrazones [24,25]. Xerographic time-of-flight measurements were used to characterize the magnitudes of hole-drift mobility (m h ) for the solid solutions of compounds 5 and 6 in the host polymer bisphenol-Z polycarbonate (PC-Z).…”

“…They are also employed in coordination reactions with metal ions [1], in cycloaddition reactions [2], and have promising antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, antiinflammatory, antitubercular and antitumoral properties [3]. In addition, good enough chargetransporting properties of polymeric arylaldehyde hydrazones caused increasing studies on them as optoelectronic devices [4]. In the title crystal structure, the atomsassociated with the C=N-N linkage display interaxial angles that deviate only slightly from that expected for atomspossessing ideal trigonal-planar geometries, ranging from 117.1(1)°to 120.9(2)°.…”

“…Arylaldehyde hydrazones are widely studied and used as charge-transporting materials mainly in electrophotographic photoreceptors of copying and fax machines as well as of laser printers [4]. Hydrazones can be also of interest as unimolecular half-substractors for molecular processors [5].…”
