Hole-Transporting Glass-Forming 3,3′-Dicarbazyl-Based Hydrazones

Abstract: 3,3 0 -Di(9-(4-butylphenyl)carbazyl) and 3,3 0 -di(9-ethylcarbazyl)-based hydrazones were synthesized by the multi-step synthetic route including oxidative dimerization of 9-(4-butylphenyl)carbazole and 9-ethylcarbazole, formylation of the dimmers obtained and the reactions of the formyl derivatives with different hydrazines. The chemical structure of the compounds was confirmed by 1 HNMR, IR and mass spectroscopy. The hydrazones synthesized form stable glasses with the glass transition temperatures exceeding … Show more

“…The data were found to be in good agreement with the proposed structures. The number average (M n ) and weight average (M w ) molecular weights of the products of polymerization (11)(12)(13) were estimated by GPC using polystyrene standards. The GPC results (Table 1) indicate that the cationic ring-opening polymerizations yield polymers of rather low molecular weights with M w ranging from 4360 to 4560 and relatively broad molecular weight distribution.…”

“…The measurement method was, in principle, similar to that demonstrated by Miyamoto et al [12]. The samples for ionization potential measurements were prepared as described previously [13].…”

“…Three new low molecular mass organic compounds containing carbazole and triphenylamine structural units, namely: 9,9 -bis(4-butylphenyl)--3,3 -bicarbazolyl (BPBC), 4-(1H-perimidin-2-yl)--N ,N -diphenylbenzenamine (PER) and 9,9 -diethyl--3,3 -bicarbazolyl (EBC) have been synthesized and characterized recently by technology group from Kaunas * corresponding author; e-mail: veng@pfi.lt University of Technology [3]. The BPBC, EBC and PER films with thickness ranging from about 250 nm to 300 nm were thermally evaporated in vacuum (p ≈ 4 × 10 −6 Torr) onto phosphorus-doped non-heated Si wafers with polished (111) surface using resistively heated tantalum boats.…”
