Hole Assisted Gunn Oscillation in Dumbbell Shaped Germanium

Abstract: Hole assisted Gunn oscillation mechanism is proposed to explain the current oscillation in dumbbell shaped single crystal Ge. It is shown that the presence of equal amount of electrons and holes and the dumbbell shape jointly create the space charge and field fluctuation which, in turn, produces the Gunn oscillation. Experimental observations are discussed in the light of the proposed model.
