HNF1B polymorphism influences the prognosis of endometrial cancer patients: a cohort study

Abstract: BackgroundHNF1B (formerly known as TCF2) gene encodes for a transcription factor that regulates gene expression involved in normal mesodermal and endodermal developments. A close association between rs4430796 polymorphism of HNF1B gene and decreased endometrial cancer (EC) risk has been demonstrated. The aim of the current study was to test the hypothesis that rs4430796 polymorphism can influence the prognosis of EC patients.MethodsRetrospective cohort study. Clinical and pathological data were extrapolated an… Show more

“…Hyperestrogenism characterizes early menarche, late menopause, nulliparity, estrogen only hormone replacement therapy and obesity that are well known risk factors for type I EC 5 , 6 . Several data related to the genetic risk was also reported 7 - 9 . Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of aromatase (CYP19A1) influenced susceptibility to EC, particularly among older and obese patients 7 .…”

“…HNF1 homeobox B (HNF1B) encodes a transcription factor and has been shown to play a role in cell development. SNPs in the HNF1B gene region have been previously associated with pancreatic (72), prostate (12,(73)(74)(75)(76)(77)(78)(79), ovarian (80)(81)(82), testicular (83), and Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention endometrial (84)(85)(86) cancers. Expression of HNF1B has been associated with prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (87) and renal cell carcinoma (88).…”
