HLA-A and HLA-B gene polymorphism and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in a Han Chinese population

Abstract: These data suggest that the gene frequency of HLA-A*3, HLA-B*14, -B*15, -B*40, and the linked gene frequency of HLA-A2B15, -A2B40, -A11B15, -A24B58, -A30B40 is associated with IPF pathogenesis.

“…In Asian populations, polymorphisms of the genes encoding for cytokines IL-3 and TGF-β[27], [28] could affect the susceptibility to IPF. HLA-A and HLA-B immune gene polymorphisms [12] were suggested to be associated with IPF in the Korean population. To date, no information is available regarding the putative association between MUC5B rs35705950 and fibrotic lung disease in the Chinese population.…”

“…In addition, a study by Zhang et al [13] showed that HLA‐A*3, B*14, B*15, and B*40 were more prevalent in IPF patients from the same racial group. However, the present study did not validate any of these alleles.…”

“…In particular, the association between HLA genes and the relative risk for IPF has been investigated in several populations. However, studies on the possible role of HLA in IPF susceptibility are fewer and with contradictory findings [12–14,33]. The contradictory results may be attributed to the different ethnic and heritage backgrounds of the study populations [34].…”
