HKGreen-3: A Rhodol-Based Fluorescent Probe for Peroxynitrite

Abstract: A novel fluorescent probe, HKGreen-3, for sensing peroxynitrite is designed on the basis of the rhodol scaffold and a peroxynitrite-specific oxidation reaction. The probe turns out to be highly sensitive and selective for detecting peroxynitrite in both chemical and biological systems.

“…HKGreen-3, a rhodol-based fluorescent probe, is recently developed by Peng et al and shows high sensitivity and selectivity for peroxynitrite in both chemical and biological systems [60]. HKOCl-1 is a BODIPY-based fluorescent probe for detecting hypochlorous acid with high specificity [61].…”

“…With this probe, we discovered endogenous ONOO -generation in oxygen-glucose-deprived cortical neurons [128] . Based on the first generation of HKGreen-1, several modified probes have been produced [129,130] . These modified probes aim to act as peroxynitrite scavengers with the potential to protect ischemic brains from the ONOO --mediated injury.…”
