“…An ethnographic study from Bangladesh found that WWID were compelled into risky injecting and sexual behaviors as the refusal could harm the relationships or instigate violence from their intimate partners [60]. Women with opioid use disorder recruited in pretrial detention centers in the United States had higher composite sex risk scores compared with men, which was further increased by cocaine use [57]. A study in Ukraine found that a staggering 25% of WWID recruited in drug treatment centers experienced sexual violence from police, and that experience was associated with six times increased odds of inconsistent condom use in the past 12 months [61 ▪▪ ].…”
