Abstract: Background: Needle stick and sharp injuries (NSSIs) amongst healthcare workers (HCWs) are among the most common occupational accidents in hospitals. Approximately half of the responsible instruments are contaminated with blood, putting users at risk infection from blood-borne pathogens such as HIV.
