HIV‐associated Burkitt lymphoma in the combination antiretroviral therapy era: Real‐world outcomes and prognostication

Abstract: We performed a retrospectively study to analyze the clinical characteristics and outcomes of HIVassociated Burkitt's lymphoma in Chongqing University Cancer Hospital (CUCH), southwest China, from March 2012 to February 2022. In the entire cohort, the median age was 36 years (range, 28-60 years), and more patients were male (82.4%). The median CD4 + T cell count was 214/μl (range, 54-601), of whom 47.1% had a CD4 + T cell count below 200/μl. Most patients had elevated LDH, elevated β 2 -MG, extranodal involveme… Show more

“…Our ndings further support previous data indicating that outcomes among HIV-associated BL patients are no longer associated with HIV speci c features but are more likely to be associated with cancer and treatment speci c features. 7,8 Notably, our results showed between-HIV status disparities in socioeconomic factors, particularly income quartiles. Of HIV-associated BL patients, 38.2% were in the lowest income quartile compared to 23.6% of HIV-negative BL patients (p < 0.001).…”

“…5,6 Additionally, evidence shows that outcomes of HIV-associated Burkitt lymphoma are based on tumor and cancer speci c factors, as opposed to HIV speci c factors. 7,8 Current literature acknowledges worse outcomes in PLWH with comorbid BL, however, there is minimal research into the signi cance of these outcomes, particularly considering hospital admissions and readmissions. Further exploration on these factors can give clinicians a greater awareness of possible outcomes to better inform their treatment decisions for this population.…”

“…Since the 1990s, with the widespread use of cART, the life expectancy of HIV-infected individuals has signi cantly increased [9][10][11]. A large cohort study from Denmark followed 5,701 HIV-infected individuals and 28,505 matched healthy individuals and found that the median age at death increased from 34.5 years in 1995-1996 to 73.9 years in 2010-2015 [12].…”
