“…In the 1980s, with the development of information processing theory, bilingual researchers using reaction time measures attempted to investigate how word representation was processed in the bilingual's different languages. Through introduction of indirect tests of implicit memory in the early 1990s, cross-language lexical decision task (LDT) and semantic priming became the most frequently used paradigms in the study of bilinguals' lexical and conceptual processing (see Keatley, 1992, for a history of bilingualism research in cognitive psychology; see also Appendix for a summary of selected empirical findings across a wide set of memory tasks).
