In Spain, the wet nurse had a prominent place in the Court of Philip II (1540–1580), suckling princes. The aim of this review is to identify the role of wet nurses in the Spanish monarchy and the survival of the infants, who were children of Philip II (16th century). A scoping review is presented, studying documents on wet nurses in the Spanish monarchy. The dialectical structural model of care (DSMC) is applied, and three thematic blocks are used to make up the historical-cultural model. Books, chapters and databases were analysed from Cuiden, Pubmed, Scopus, Science Direct and Google Scholar, from January–September 2021. These wet nurses were treated as ladies, as they came from wealthy families related to royalty. The services of wet nurses from neighbouring localities to the court were used. They had to be of good appearance and in excellent health. They were hired because of the need for survival of the infants, children of Philip II. The functions of the four wives of Philip II were relegated to reproduction, childcare, family and monarchical duties. They used empirical medicine in the form of prescriptions for beauty, hygiene and feminine care. The wet nurses were the driving force that promoted the health of babies through breastfeeding.

“…Així, per al cas balear cal citar l'article d'Esther Cruz Pérez "La feina de les alletadores a la Baixa Edat Mitjana mallorquina" (Cruz, 2003). Pel que fa a la ciutat comtal, on s'ha produït un gran floriment d'aquesta línia d'investigació, cal anotar l'estudi de José Hernando "L'alimentació làctica dels nadons durant el segle XIV: les nodrisses o dides a Barcelona 1295-1400" (Hernando, 1996) i les importants investigacions portades a terme per Ximena Illanes, de les quals cal remarcar els articles "Nutrir a otros que no son los propios" (Illanes, 2006) i "Historias entrecruzadas: El período de la lactancia de niñas y niños abandonados en el mundo femenino de las nodrizas durante la primera mitad del siglo XV" (Illanes, 2013). A més a més, també cal destacar els estudis de Teresa Vinyoles, que tot i centrar-se més en la figura dels xiquets expòsits, constitueixen, sense dubte, una font de gran interés per a l'estudi de les dides.…”

L’article tracta el treball de les dides als hospitals valencians d’En Clapers i de la Reina al segle XV. És centrarem en abordar les cinc qüestions següents: la gran quantitat de dides i els motius d’aquest nombre, les tasques que aquestes dones portaven a terme, la duració del seu treball, el seu salari i els orígens socials de les alletadores. This article aims at discussing the work of the nursemaids in Valencia’s hospitals d’En Clapers and de la Reina in the 15th century. We will focus on five of the following sub-themes: the huge number of nursemaids and the cause of it, the tasks of these women, the length of their job, their salary, the location and the social origins of the nursemaids.

Este artigo propor-se pesquisar a relacao que existiu entre a difusao do discurso maternalista, promovido pelos médicos, políticos, sacerdotes, filósofos, e o declive da professao de nodriza em Montevideo do seculo XIX. A partir dum análise de género se buscará identificar os vínculos de poder representados no tratamento e disciplinamento dos corpos dessas mulheres em grande parte pretas, mestizas e extrangeiras. Para isso se analizará emprensa, registros da policia, cartas, informes médicos e catálogos de livrarías, procurando rastros do discurso maternalista (proveniente do higienismo médico) que intentavam criticar e desvalorizar a labor das nodrizas que muito útiles e de moda tinham estado durante o seculo XVIII e parte do XIX.
