Histophysics: A New Discipline

Abstract: History is the most important discipline of study. The system investigated in history is a many-body system consisting of biological material bodies, Homo sapiens, and hence can be studied scientifically. The unique role physicists can play in advancing the science of human history is presented. We will discuss the methods of study in history; worldviews; modeling history as a complex, dynamical system; predicting the future and retrodicting the past; and artificial history. In particular, active walk is shown… Show more

“…Essentially, my physics research ranged from nuclear physics in my Vancouver years (1965)(1966) to condensed matter theory at New York and Europe (1969)(1970)(1971)(1972)(1973)(1974)(1975)(1976)(1977)(1978), and then from liquid crystals research in China andNew York (1978-1987) to nonlinear physics and complex systems in San Jose (since 1987). I started publishing on the humanities in 2002 [Lam, 2002;Lam, et al, 2010].…”

“…In summary, we report the empirical statistics and modeling for the bilinear effect in Zipf plots in several social systems. The dynasty lifetime results contribute to the advancement of histophysics [29]. Although this letter investigates a few examples, the research is just at its beginning.…”
