Histopathologischer Partikelalgorithmus

Abstract: For histopathological diagnosis a particle score for synovitis and SLIM is recommended to evaluate (1) the predominant type of prothetic wear debris with differentiation between microparticles, and macroparticles, (2) the presence of non-prosthesis material particles and (3) the quantification of particle-association necrosis and lymphocytosis. An open, continuously updated web-based particle algorithm would be helpful to address the issue of particle heterogeneity and include all new particle materials genera… Show more

These criteria can be applied to the decisional tree of the Histological Particle Algorithm (HPA) for the correct identification of the particles which has been reported before in a condensed version [ 18 , 19 ] and more recently in a manual for the histological diagnosis of pathologies associated with orthopaedic implants [ 20 ].

“…Depending on the level of tissue reaction, inflammation and the amount of wear debris they are categorized using a categorization developed by Morawietz et al ( 2006 ). Furthermore, wear particles were classified by a particle algorhythm published by Krenn et al ( 2014 ).…”

“…The HE staining, the PAS reaction, and the Prussian blue reaction were carried out fully automatically using the Leica ST 4040 stainer module (Leica Biosystems Nussloch GmbH, Nuszloch, Germany), and the oil red staining was carried out according to the published staining protocol (Krenn et al. 2014a ) without automation.…”

“…Characteristics are the histologically detectable particle deposits with a surrounding lymphocytic reaction (Krenn et al. 2014a , 2014b ). In all cases the microbiological findings were negative and the histopathological criteria of infection were not met.…”
